Build Your Faith

Faith Trials Overcoming Encouraging TheRayDestiny Quotes

 1 Kings 17:16

"For the jar of flour was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry, in keeping with the word of the Lord spoken by Elijah"

Hebrews 11:1

"For faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen"

The verse taken from the book of 1 Kings is from the story of the lady who catered to Elijah during his time in her town.

Apparently, the lady was set to make her final meal for her and her son and then proceed to die from starvation. However, when Elijah came to her, he asked that she provide him food. She told him her plan, but Elijah still insist that she make him food and even told her that it won't be her last.

The verse tells us that the food never ran out.

She obeyed Elijah in providing a meal for him, regardless of her not seeing a way.

Although she had already come to her own conclusion, she still trusted in God that his conclusion was better and in return, she saw the hand of God move in her life.

She beheld a miracle.

Many persons in the bible have shared this seem experience. This same privilege of having God showed them just how powerful He is and just how nothing is impossible for Him.

I know that I can also testify of His goodness and maybe even you?

We have all seen Him move in areas of our lives that we had concluded was dead and brought it back to life.

We have seen God heal and remove things from our bodies that doctors had said no and not possible.

We have seen Him work in broken hearts and homes. Saved souls that were counted out.

Undeserving yet He blesses.

This is what He did in the woman's life. He showed her, who He is.

However, that's not what I'm trying to give to you today, we can brag on God forever, but I want you to see 1 Kings 17:17-24.

It states that later on in the passage the woman's son became sick and died.

The same lady was tested again. The same lady that had already obeyed God and seemed to have her life on track was now hit with another blow.

A serious blow.

When I read this, I wondered why this was happening to her.

I mean, I understand that as long as we live for Christ, we will suffer persecution (2 Timothy 3:12). I am fully aware that we won't have a smooth ride, but did she really deserve it?

It wasn't adding up for me.

But, God answered and said, "It was to build her faith"

I was then reminded of 1 Peter 1:6-7 and the story of Abraham and Isaac.

Our faith can only be built by experiencing trials.

The lady's faith was only equivalent to the refilling of her flour jar and oil jug, but God had to show her that He can do more than just restock, but He can also resurrect and revive.

He had to build her faith to understand and accept more.

Her faith was at a comfortable stance in God, but not where it should and can be.

I have noticed in my walk with God that you can never be comfortable for too long, especially when you request to 'Build Your Faith'.

God shakes the table.

He shuffles the cards.

He presents the obstacles and the trials needed that you can bear to expand your faith and trust in Him.

He gives a pop quiz.

The lady asks Elijah," What do you have against me? Did you come to remind me of my sin?"

It's familiar and almost natural for us to ask this question when things are going wrong.

"Why me?"

But, God is answering us today.

"It is to build your faith"

"It is to expand your trust and belief in Me."

"It is to remove you from that comfortable level you were on and to bring forth growth to the level I require you to be"

God tests you according to your strength and rests assured He will not put anything on you that you can not bear. He will never lead you into a place or situation without an escape route. (1 Corinthians 10:13)

So when trials and temptation come your way and you feel the pressure, strengthen yourself. Build your faith.

Read the Word.

Declare it over your life.

Rely on Him.

Expand your trust in Him.

Grow.
