Are you Mary or Martha?- Spiritually Active

Spirit Busy God Active TheRayDestiny Quotes Inspirational

 Luke 10: 41-42
"Martha, Martha," The Lord answered, "You are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed-or indeed only one thing. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her".

1 Thessalonians 5:6
"So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober"

I have learned the hard way that just because you may be a busybody, your spirit can still be lazy.

Let's look at the story of Mary and Martha. It speaks about Jesus visiting them and how Martha was busy fixing and fussing over the way the home should be so much that her spirit wasn't aware that Jesus was in the room.

I was the same and I know that many believers may find themselves once in this same spot as well. Constantly finding something to do in the church, thinking that it makes them a worker in the Kingdom of God.

I spent years on the usher board, praise team, dance team, and media. I tried my hand as a youth leader and never said no to any speaking engagements. I joined the choir and dug deep into anything church-wise, but if you had asked me about my relationship with God at the time, I couldn't tell you how it was.

I was physically active and alive like Martha, but I was completely dead spiritually.

In the past years, I have stepped back from many, many things, not because I have backslidden-which many believers sadly believe when a person removes themselves from church activities-, But it was because I wanted to become spiritually awake and active just as much or even more than how I was physically.

I wanted to build my foundation, my spirit in Christ.

Like Mary, I wanted to choose what is better. I wanted to be aware of when Jesus is in the room and not busy focusing on fixing it.

I encourage you today to evaluate your life.

Are you Mary or Martha?

Are you worried about making sure you are recognized physically in the church as a hard worker or spiritually connected to Jesus?

I must admit it bugged me when persons assumed I had fallen away from God because my physical man had become still, but I see it now.

Mary's physical man was still too. Unmoving, but her spirit had spoken and had done the greatest gesture in God.

Attentive and waiting.

Active and alive.

Sober.

And just like Martha, the people could only physically see what was happening to me and what will happen to you if you chose to take this route too.

Remember they are humans and sometimes can only see as such and their opinions don't matter as much as God's own.

Don't get me wrong! I am not saying to do absolutely nothing in the church, because truthfully when you begin to be spiritually active you're going to be led to do and join certain things in the church regardless.

God will lead you directly into your calling when you step by faith first.

Therefore, you won't be physically still any longer, nor will you be frustrated by taking on unnecessary tasks like Martha anymore.

It's time we become sober and spiritually active and even more so, intentional.

It's time we move according to the Spirit and not the flesh anymore.
