A Pure Heart Is Still Required
Psalm 24:3-4
"Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, nor sworn deceitfully"
Another year we have made it and with all the excitement of seeing another 12 chapters, we also must take into consideration that it is shortening the time of when Christ shall return.
We do not know the day nor the hour, but I am aware that the clock started the moment Jesus ascended into Heaven.
Where am I going with all of this?
Well, we know in the last days that many men (humankind) will become lovers of themselves. We also know that our hearts will begin to wax cold.
Take this as a simple reminder to remember to keep your heart from such things.
A reminder to stay pure in the heart.
As we go on throughout this year let us remember to keep clean hands.
God still requires us to love one another.
We shouldn't be so quick to cut someone off or dismiss friendships.
Being a good person should not be something that can go out of style.
Help those that are in need and especially those that God directs you to assist.
Speak kindly to one another, always with love.
Keep away from sin.
I know that the last line is hard because we are, by nature, sinful creatures, but remember this is about keeping a pure heart.
As sinful creatures who have accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour, there will be times when we will become weak.
We'll fall short and do something that is not of God and that's okay once we ask for forgiveness and do our best to turn away from it.
However, we must not fall prey to allowing our spirit to become weakened every time to the point that when we sin it's not considered a big deal.
I feel like we should count sinning a big deal because when we do, only then do we take repentance seriously.
It is a trick of the enemy to make you feel like any kind of sin is small.
"Oh, you just lied. Everyone lies."
"Oh, you just cheated, that ain't that big."
"Oh, you talked about someone negatively. Everyone does that"
"Oh, you hate that person. It's okay someone doesn't like them either"
Don't allow the enemy to sugarcoat and make you believe that sin isn't sin!
Doing so, makes us contaminate our hearts!
It makes our hearts become filthy one sin at a time.
Our hands to be dirty.
I don't know about you, but I want to see Jesus.
I want to see the love of my life and based on the scriptures, doing so required me to have a pure heart and clean hands.
How can we have these?
Practice it!
It tells us what sins to not commit. It tells us how to love. It tells us how to live right!
Once we exercise the Word, we maintain a pure heart and squeaky clean hands.
Now, I know sometimes inconsistency would come into play, but like I say, it's fine once we know to repent and do better.
But, don't allow the enemy to make you feel like the sin you are committing whether small or big in your eyes is nothing but a drop in the water.
It is something big!
It ripples the pond!
I am saying this because I don't want us to fall into the game of covering the elephant.
I want us to acknowledge when we sin.
Acknowledge we fall short.
Because, when we can do this and confess only then we are able to have our hands cleaned and hearts pure!
