The Prodigal Return

 Would you accept me again?
Would you look past my filthy appearance and still call me your friend?
I admit I got beside myself. I thought I knew.
I thought I knew the way and a better path to You.

I instead missed my step. I misjudge my righteousness
I thought it was what held Your love and blessings over me,
When it was indeed Your graciousness.
Out here, I am a different kind of broken, unable to be pieced again.
Out here my home, my gold interior room resembles a pigpen.

Lord, I want to return, to come back, what will it be?
I left on the false belief that I can be independent, but I need You to father me.
I have tasted and seen both You and the pretense of the world out there.
I have concluded that I'll rather be with You and work for an heir.

So, will you accept me back? What do you say?
For Your acceptance I'll change my direction, I'll change my way
And although You will give it to me regardless, I still try to earn
You have already accepted me, Your love greets me halfway in my return.
