How do you smell?
1 Corinthians 2:15
"For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing."
An aroma is a distinctive, pleasant smell.
The scripture above states that in the presence of God we are the pleasing aroma of Christ.
It also states this aroma that we have not only gives a pleasing effect to God but also brings conviction to those around us.
What we give off can either assist those in Christ to continue living a saved life or those in sin to stop living a sinful life.
How can you create this aroma?
This aroma is created by accepting Jesus Christ into your life first.
It is accepting that He is the child of God that came to earth and was crucified for our sins and raised again to life three days after to sit at the right side of God.
It is a mixture of fragrances such as reading your Bible, applying the Word to your life, and being Christ-like.
It is combining oils such as prayer, fasting, spending time with God, and being kind and loving to your brothers and sisters in Christ.
The more you stir these ingredients together the better your aroma becomes.
It turns into a sweet-smelling savor. Light and airy for encouragement for others to smell and be won over by, strong and penetrating to seek those who don't know Christ to come to Him.
Your aroma should be your light!
Able to be picked out among the darkness.
Able to lead those who may stumble.
Able to be visible by God.
This is what our aroma should be like!
Now, that you know this, I ask you today, How do you smell?
What scent do you give off?
Does it please God's nostrils?
Does your aroma distinguish you?
Hebrew 4:12 says:
"For the Word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates to even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the attitudes of the heart"
In John 1: 14, The Bible states that this same Word that Hebrews speak of became flesh which is Jesus Christ.
Now, in today's scripture, it says that the aroma is of Christ.
What I am reiterating with more biblical evidence is that having the Word of God in us is what creates our Aroma.
The less we have the Word in us, the more unpleasant our Aroma becomes to God.
The less it becomes able to distinguish us.
The less it is able to win over our brothers and sisters who are lost and encourage our brothers and sisters who are in Christ.
Has your aroma been lacking lately in what it suppose to do?
Has it been unpleasant to others? Unapproachable? Unreachable?
Well, this is the solution!
We are not able to help uplift the kingdom of God when our aroma is stink!
We can not be negative, miserable, arrogant, or false with our aroma.
When we do so, we become more like those who spray perfume or cologne on themselves.
We have the scent, but we aren't distinctive as the aroma.
We have the image of God, but we deny ourselves the power.
In other words, we can not fake this aroma!
We can't pretend to have it all together, quoting the scriptures and pretending we are holy when we are not.
Eventually, that cologne and perfume dies off, and then what distinctive smell are we giving?
So, let's self-check today.
Let's ask God:
"How do I smell?
