Grace VS Accountability

Grace Accountability Inspirational Motivational Godly TheRayDestiny Quotes

Fair warning: I would not call names in this post because I respect both parties, but I feel as I give the example you may put two and two together in any way.

There's a popular gospel group that released a statement that they were cutting ties with one of their singers due to some reasons. These reasons were not disclosed. However, because of the world we live in and privacy being almost extinct, people have dug up what they presume to be the case of the split.

Now since this, there has been a great ordeal of people voicing their opinions on what grace and accountability are and I wanted to give my input as well.

Not because I want to be a part of this, but because I want to share light on what has been happening for a very long time.

The person who was cut from the group isn't the first person to ever be excluded from a church entity because of their inconsistency in their walk with Christ.

I am quite positive that they will not be the last.

There are many things one must think about when these things happen.

One, we on the outside will never know the true and full story behind certain reasons. Therefore, one must be careful of inserting our inputs on matters that do not involve us.

As I mentioned, society has made it almost comfortable for us to be in someone else's business even though we are not warranted to do so.

1 Thessalonians 4:11 tells us to mind our own business.

Secondly, before we judge others we must also evaluate ourselves.

I am reminded of the story of the woman who was caught cheating and brought before Jesus. There were men stationed and ready to stone her, but Jesus asked an important question that I think we should ask ourselves frequently when our brothers and sisters fall in Christ.

"He who is without sin, cast the first stone"

Before we jump on the bandwagon to judge and criticize our brothers and sisters because of their mishaps in life, we must first look at the speck in our eyes.

Are we doing as good as we think we are to even cast judgment?

Do we have the right to go ahead and throw the first stone?

Are our hands clean and hearts pure enough?

I do not know about you, but when I ask myself these things, I normally shy away from the rocks because I often come to the conclusion that I am not perfect enough to do such a judgment.

Thirdly, and this is where we get into the nick of things, accountability.

The Bible speaks of not associating with brothers and sisters in Christ who intentionally do wrong but still confess themselves as Christians. 1 Corinthians 5:11

One can argue that this gospel group was just separating themselves from someone who has publicly and intentionally put themselves in a sinful predicament because it goes against what they represent.

That they were smart to keep their image and what they stand for clean and Christ-like. To show order and accountability because it wasn't like this person didn't know what was the rules.

Just like the scripture indicated brother and not a sinner.

Brother means that this person had accepted Jesus Christ into their life and they were after the ways of Christ, yet they still indulge in a sinful lifestyle.

They intentionally choose to be lukewarm.

The Bible said that persons like these deserve to be corrected beginning with just you and them, then if not take heed with a witness, and if they still don't get it, then to be publically dealt with them. Matthew 18:15-17

It isn't to shame the person who has strayed but to instill order in the body of Christ.

To keep that which is considered consecrated holy.

In doing this, one forces someone to take responsibility for their actions and to be held accountable for what they have done.

Let's be honest here, some things we do that we know we aren't supposed to do will sometimes, even never, be dealt with unless it is pointed out or exposed.

This is a harsh result, but it opens our eyes from being blind to contentment in sin.

A very important thing to understand and remember is that God is just and very much so righteous.

He does not love sin and He will never be fine with any of us intentionally putting ourselves in those situations when He and we both know that we can overcome or do without it.

Lastly, showing grace.

Many argued that they wished the gospel group had shown grace to the person(s) who had fallen by the wayside of life.

That they were more understanding that many of us fall and that we should be good samaritans and help each other up.

I do agree with this as well.

However, in their case it kind of reverts back to what I mentioned before in not ever knowing what happens behind closed doors.

Maybe they have extended grace and they haven't departed with the persons in all ways. Maybe they are still helping and praying that they get back on the path which Christ Jesus has paved.

When it comes to extending grace in this instance, accountability and grace can both be done simultaneously.

God made David accountable for his sin when he killed Bathseba's husband and took her from him, but he also extended grace when He made Solomon the start of the king's lineage.

Grace is not omitted when order or accountability steps into play.

Now you may ask me, who do I side with when it came to the illustration?

Was the gospel group correct in what they did?

I firstly would like to say that there aren't any sides to this.

We will all fall short of His Glory from time to time, I believe.

I believe those persons have just fallen and I pray and believe that they will come back to their feet again.

I also believe that the gospel group has done well in keeping what God has anointed them and appointed them for at this time.

I wish they would remain consistent in keeping it holy and just in all ways.

Let's remember that order and righteousness is a very big thing when it comes to God.

It always was and will always be.
