The Fruit this month is Peace!
Peace known in Greek as Eirene (I-ray-nay) means to be harmonious with each other, at rest, quiet, content, and friendly.
Webster's dictionary explains it as being free from disturbance; tranquility.
When I began to write this post two scripture came to mind.
Isaiah 26:3
"You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in you"
And,
Romans 12:18
"If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone"
Peace is something that many of us desire in our lives.
I would even go as far as saying that it is one that we crave.
Nobody is interested in the constant fighting and war that goes on in our minds or drama. Not everyone is grafted into seeking chaos or confusion. Most of us would prefer to live a life that is peaceful.
However, just like many good things in our lives, peace isn't always a guaranteed promise for us always.
I wouldn't say that getting it is far-fetched, it's just that it's hard to maintain.
We may sometimes experience slowness or a moment of quietness in our lives, but even then that tends to go away after some time.
This is because seeking any kind of peace that isn't from God doesn't truly last or help with what we need it for.
Peace is something that doesn't alter the situations that you are going through nor doesn't it change what situations may come your way. Peace's sole purpose is to keep our mind/soul content as we go through it.
You can be going through anything, absolute chaos in your life but if the peace of God is with you, you'll get through it.
So, the big question is, how do we get this fruit?
Well, Isaiah 26:3 answers it simply.
Once our minds/souls/ hearts remain or stay on God then in return He'll keep us in perfect peace.
Once we accept God into our lives.
Once we live according to God's Word. Once we love and cast our cares on Him. Once we stay committed to Him and His instruction, then in return we have this peace that is perfect.
Peace is negotiated in the terms when we have God in our lives.
Romans 5:1
"Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ."
In Him, we find solace, tranquility, and freedom from disturbance.
And because He is within us, He exudes peace.
His presence includes the presence of peace. 1 Kings 19:12 tell us that He came in a gentle whisper.
After we accept Him, we, therefore, gain peace, in return, we begin to spread this peace. Because this is what having the fruits of the spirits is about.
To bear witness.
To produce evidence.
Romans 12:18, tell us to live in peace with everyone.
The result of this is sharing or spreading God, Himself.
If when we accept Christ, we, therefore, gain peace and now we must live in peace or Christ with everyone, doesn't that mean we spread it?
As we seek the Word of God and apply the Word of God to our lives and create this inner peace then begin to express it to others we live in peace with everyone.
Inner Peace always begins to exude.
The Fruits of the Spirit always begin to permeate.
Because you have inner peace, you'll begin to be harmonious with others.
Situations that would have had you feeling chaotic or filled with contempt will not even disrupt you.
Actions and responses that may have been negatively understood won't be perceived that way anymore.
When you have inner peace you create outer peace.
Philippians 4:7
"And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
It tells us that not only is God's peace perfect, but it is not understandable as well as it guards our hearts and minds in Christ.
Do you know what a guard is?
It's something/ someone that protects and keeps safe a valuable item/ person in the midst of adversity.
It doesn't mean that the valuable item/ person won't face these issues, but it does mean that this guard will lift up an impenetrable wall.
I encourage you today to accept Christ so that you can experience this indecipherable perfect peace so that your heart and mind can be guarded.
Follow His instructions so you can have this tranquility.
This freedom from disturbance.
