Don't Hide!
The other day my aunt and I were talking about how persons who aren't saved are under the impression that God is not close to them.
Or, that He doesn't hear their prayers.
I am not sure if this is because of Christians gatekeeping the grace of God that made unbelievers feel like they are too dirty to be seen by God, but today, I want to debunk that theory.
There is no doubt that many of us believers have been in situations where we warded off praying to God, or interrupted our fast, or even avoided reading the Word of God because the enemy reminded us of the sin we had committed prior.
How many of us even tried to avoid conversing with God or even denying ourselves of His promise because we felt unworthy of doing so?
We have the excuse and we make do with the excuse to avoid being seen as filthy in God's sight.
I want to tell you today that it is all a ploy and an attack of the enemy to make us feel this way.
Dirty.
Filthy.
Unworthy.
Too sinful.Unable to be redeemed.
This is what he wants us to see ourselves as.
Don't believe me?
Let's look at it.
If the enemy can remind you about the fact that you just finish cursing, and gossiping before you go into prayer, then he can persuade you to second guess doing so.
"You just finish cussing and you really going into prayer?"
If the enemy can remind you about the fact that you just committed adultery or fornication after saying you won't do it again before you're about to read the Word or go to church, then he can persuade you to not attend church or read the Word anymore.
"You're really bold stepping into church, knowing you just come from doing what you just did"
If the enemy can remind you and later on convince you to not do something that would bring you closer to God because of what you have done recently then we have already fallen into his tricks and schemes already.
This is his plot all along.
To get you to believe the wrong idea about who God truly is.
It isn't how many times you fall, it's the idea of planting that you will always fall and if so, always stay down that the enemy wants you to hold on to.
He wants you to believe that the God whom you serve won't look past your constant stumbles.
As my aunt and I continue to converse, the story of Adam and Eve popped up in my head. Genesis 3
It said that after Adam and Eve had sinned, their first instinct was to hide from God. (Genesis 3:8)
In verse 7, it said that when they ate from the tree, their eyes were opened, and guess what?
When they realize what they have done, they hid!
The scripture says that God had to go looking for Adam and Eve.
Not only were Adam and Eve both hidden in the spirit from God, but they also try to hide in the physical.
The Bible said that they made clothes for themselves and hid.
Normally, theologians would say it was because they gained wisdom and knowledge and realized that they were naked, but I want to dig a bit deeper than that.
Was it not the same defense mechanism when we sin or do something bad?
The guilty act of hiding one's hand or shying away because we are ashamed of what we did.
The very same act that Adam and Eve displayed in the garden is what we do today, whether believers or unbelievers.
The enemy wants us to continue to live with this generational habit of hiding ourselves from God just because we think we are too dirty for Him to assist or hear.
But, guess what!
Guess what the good part about this is?
The scripture said that although Adam and Eve had tried to hide, God still went out to look for them.
And I love this part because although that generational habit of hiding was passed down, so was God's habit of still coming to us regardless of our sin or where we are on the spectrum of being saved was also passed down.
His grace and mercy still come searching for us.
He has no plan to leave us behind.
Luke 15:4-6, speaks about the parable of the lost sheep.
How although the shepherd had 99 with him, he still went out to look for that one sheep that had lost its way.
His grace and mercy still extended towards that sheep that had wandered off the path.
Then, the Bible said when he found it he rejoiced.
Matthew 5:45 proves that He hears and provides for the just and the unjust.
This is the God that we serve.
Today, let us not allow the enemy to win with this tactic anymore.
Don't let him cause you to go into hiding!
Yes, you have sinned, but you don't need to hide from God. He sees all things and He is a forgiving Father.
1 John 1:9
"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness"
You're not too filthy.
You're not too unworthy.
God hears all of our prayers and if the heart believes and has faith in Him, He will fulfill the prayer that was asked.
Don't hide anymore.
Break that habit.
Instead, come to God.
He's waiting.
