God's Voice
I was laying down the other night and God begin to pour some knowledge.
Of course, what I assumed would be an early night was automatically shifted to a night of wisdom impartation.
He said "My sheep know my voice"
I didn't understand why the statement. I felt like it was so random, but then I begin to ponder on it a bit.
Oftentimes, we battle with the concept of knowing the difference of who is speaking in our heads.
Is it God?
Is it me?
Is it the devil?
Many times I was asked the question of how to know God's voice.
I heard before that there are always three voices in our heads.
Ours, God's, and then the devil's.
Ours is often layered with doubt and negativity. If we are asked to do a task like pray for someone or give to another, our voice would often reply with doubt if that was really the instruction.
Basically, we would find a way to talk ourselves out of the task or nudge to do something clearly perceived as good.
With the devil's voice, it is always against it. It doesn't hold doubt or negativity. It is straight up against doing anything that is justifiable. Matter of fact, it will even provide a reason why you shouldn't.
He will suggest that the person didn't do anything for you why give? Or that the person is fine, why pray? Or you just commit a sin and you're going to pray?
It's always against what is good.
Now, God's voice is always positive and confident. It doesn't bring doubt or rejection to the task. The only persuasion would be to do what is right in the situation.
His voice is just and would provide more of a reason why doing the task is worth it than why it is not.
But, the task.
Who gives the task?
Who's voice was it that give me the task in the first place?
Who told me to go pray for this individual?
To sow this seed?
To fast today?
To do this?
How do I know this voice was God's?
"My Sheep would know My voice"
As I meditate on this word given by God, I begin to understand what He was trying to relay to me.
"If you are My sheep, then identifying My voice would be easy"
Meaning, if we are the sheep of God, then detecting His voice would be like second nature.
I thought of how sheep respond to their shepherd.
They are constantly in the presence of their shepherd. They always abide by the boundaries of their shepherd. They follow their shepherd with naivety and blind trust.
So therefore when their shepherd speaks because they constantly are with this individual they know their voice.
Are you getting where I am going yet?
God is basically saying if we continue to spend time with Him.
Constantly in His presence.
Always studying His Word.
Being obedient to His Word and following His commands.
Then when He speaks, knowing His voice is easy to detect because we are now His sheep, and He is our shepherd.
Hearing His voice would be like second nature to us. Like a mother/ father calling her child.
You often see a child would respond to the sound of their guardian. They are quick to react because they are constantly around them.
So, this is how you know God's voice.
We become His sheep.
How do we do this?
Be in His presence. Read and obey His Word. Pray and meditate on Him.
Then, we know His voice.
Simple.
