Make It Light
Acts 27:18
"We took such a violent battering from the storm that the next day they begin to throw the cargo overboard."
This scripture is pulled from Acts when Paul was on his journey to Rome.
Now, it states that when they were on this very long journey, they encountered a storm.
It stated that the storm was so bad that they begin to fear for their lives. They had exhausted so many avenues to keep themselves secured during this storm. One of them is throwing cargo and even the anchors overboard so that they can be lighter.
There is a bigger story to this, I am sure, however, I want to stick to this small detail and maximize it.
They lightened the load.
The very things that were necessary for them, they throw overboard, just to make sure they survive.
It makes you question what we would really do to ensure that we make it safely.
What we will do when put in a position where we have to do what we gotta do to get where we need to be.
Are the things that we are clinging to right now necessary for where we need to go, or do we just think they are?
Do we need to have that in order to get what we truly need?
Do we have to have this set of people in our lives in order to get to where we need to get?
These things that we are clutching to the point of strangulation, are they as necessary as we think?
I want to tell you today to make light of your journey.
There are too many things that you are carrying that are making this journey for you longer and overbearing than it should be.
I speak from experience when I know what it is to be carrying the weight of the world on my shoulders.
In your mind, you feel like it's necessary for you to worry about.
It's your burden to carry.
It's something you have to take with you.
But, it's not.
I thought it was.
But, it is not.
We don't have to fret about tomorrow. We don't have to worry or be anxious about the things of the future.
We don't have to keep a load of our past on our shoulders.
It's not a requirement.
Today, make your load light.
Cast your cares on Him.
Lay aside your burdens.
Throw them overboard.
Yes, it's going to be hard because in your mind you think that it's required. You think it's needed.
Its food, its water, its clothes. It's friends, it's my job, it's my money, it's my relationship. It's a part of me.
But, if it isn't helping you progress into the place where you need to be, what is it other than unnecessary weight?
Throw it overboard.
Make it light.
